“Introduction of Blackberry Services is an indication that our country is comfortable with the freedoms that we have; particularly the freedoms of expression and democracy,” says Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed. The Vice President made this statement at a reception hosted by partnership, Wataniya Telecom Maldives and Q-Tel International and Research in Motion to celebrate the launch of Blackberry Services in the Maldives for the first time.

Speaking at the ceremony which was held at the National Arts Gallery yesterday evening, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed said that the establishment of a research and mobile company, and the launch of Blackberry services is a vote of confidence from foreign business developers in the business environment of our country.

In this regard the Vice President highlighted upon the clear confidence that international partners place in their Maldivian colleagues and the government to provide services and gain the improvement of commerce and business in the country.

The Vice President continued that he was pleased that Blackberry services will be available to a very young population; that is IT friendly, dynamic and will provide a bright future for the Maldives.
