President Mohamed Nasheed has attended the awards ceremony of the Surfing Champions Trophy 2011 held in Four Seasons resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa today.
At the ceremony held onboard Four Seasons Explorer, a luxury catamaran, the President awarded the Grand Champion trophy to the winner.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Nasheed acknowledged that Maldivians were accustomed to life close to the ocean, adding that “we are people of the sea”. He also noted that fishermen spent more time at sea than at home, and that 44% of the Maldivian work force was fishermen.
President Nasheed conveyed that he was honoured to meet the world surfing champions, and welcomed them to visit the Maldives again. He also added that Maldivian surfers would be much appreciative of this opportunity to meet them in person.
