Ambassador of the Netherlands to the Maldives Leoni Cuelenaere has paid her farewell call on President Mohamed Nasheed today.

During the meeting held at the President’s Office, the President expressed his gratitude for the work done by the Dutch Ambassador to strengthen existing relations and promote development cooperation between the two countries.

Discussions at the meeting were mainly focused on the progress of democratic consolidation in the Maldives and reviewing the ongoing development projects in the country.

The President highlighted the major development ventures between the government of the Maldives and Dutch companies such as Royal Boskalis Westminster and Dutch Docklands.

The Netherlands Ambassador praised the President’s initiative to open up the Maldivian economy and strengthen democratic institutions of the Maldives.

The meeting was attended by Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed, Special Envoy of the President Ibrahim Hussain Zaki, National Security Advisor Amin Faisal, Foreign Policy Advisor Dr Ahmed Shaheed and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Naseem and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Aslam Mohamed Shakir.
