Underlining the importance of providing education to children, President Mohamed Nasheed has asked the people to reconsider the way they think about development.

Speaking in Maaungoodhoo of North Miladhunmadulu Atoll, the President said development, in the Maldives, has always being measured in terms of material development, and the size and availability of concrete structures.

However, he reiterated that the only path to development was providing and improving the standard of education given to children.

Revealing that the government would construct the island’s harbour, the President underlined the importance of education to take the maximum benefits of harbours and other infrastructure that foster development.

He if the people of the cared about the school and education of their children as much as they cared about harbours or other infrastructure, it would be only a matter of time before our living standards improved.

In addition, the President said before the end of February, ferries would travel from and to the island least once a day, as the first phase of the government’s transport network completed.
