President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, late Thursday night, convened the National Security Council (NSC) for an emergency meeting, following an incident that left injured the Speaker of Parliament, Former President Mohamed Nasheed. The explosion outside the Speaker’s residence on Neeloafaru Hingun also wounded several members of his security detail and some innocent bystanders.

At the meeting held in Mulee’aage, members of the National Security Council briefed President Solih with the latest update on the steps taken immediately following the incident and subsequent investigation. They also deliberated on measures on strengthening and ensuring the safety and security of the public.

Rushed immediately to ADK Hospital following the incident, the Speaker is receiving treatment for his injuries. President Solih earlier visited Speaker Nasheed in ADK Hospital. In a tweet posted last Thursday night, the President stated: “We are treating this matter with utmost seriousness, and the investigation is currently underway.”
