Chinese Ambassador Calls on the President

Ambassador of China accredited to the Maldives, Yu Hongyao has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed today.

During the meeting held this afternoon at the President’s Office, President Waheed updated Ambassador Hongyao on the country’s evolving political situation.

At the meeting, the Ambassador conveyed his hopes that all parties would work together and put national interest ahead of politics, to restore peace and stability in the country.

Highlighting the long existing diplomatic relations between the two countries, Ambassador Hongyao assured that the Chinese government was ready to work closely with the new government of the Maldives.

President Waheed informed the Ambassador that the government would take all necessary measures to ensure safety of tourists visiting the Maldives, and do everything possible to resolve all issues.
