President Yameen presents National Award of Honour and National Award of Recognition Conferred

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has presented the National Award of Honour and the National Award of Recognition on Saturday evening. The awards were conferred at the official function held at Dharubaaruge, to mark this year’s Republic Day.

Recipients of the National Award of Honour received a shield of honour, a badge of honour and a commemorative plaque, while the recipients of the National Award of Recognition received a commemorative plaque and a certificate.

Two honourees received the National Award of Honour this year. They are;

1. Mr. Abdulla Afeef, for his contribution in the area of Dhivehi literature, for the promotion of Dhivehi poetry
2. Dr. Mohamed Ahmed, for his contribution in the area of health, for the promotion of public health

Twenty five honourees received the National Award of Recognition. They were:

1. Al-Qaria Fathimath Rasheedha, in the area of recitation and teaching of Quran
2. Uz. Moosa Anwar Hassan, in the area of promoting Islamic awareness and teaching Islamic studies
3. Uz. Abdul Mueed Hassan, in the area of Dhivehi literature
4. Mr. Mohamed Shathir, in the area of Maldivian history - creating awareness
5. Mr. Ahmed Zameer, in the area of national heritage - preservation of national heritage
6. Mr. Abdulla Mushthaq Rashaad, in the area of education - establishment and management of educational institutions
7. Mr. Mohamed Rasheed, in the area of management
8. Ms. Fathimath Zaeema, in the area of social services - charitable work
9. Ms. Asiyath Najeeba, in the area of small and medium enterprises - tailoring and embroidery
10. Mr. Ali Hassan, in the area of boat building - designing and building sailboats and yachts
11. Ms. Aminath Leela, in the area of arts and crafts - contributing to and promoting craftsmanship
12. Mr. Mohamed Ali Janah, in the area of architecture and construction – architecture, construction and consultancy
13. Mr. Abdulla Azmeen, in the area of information and news dissemination – information dissemination
14. Mr. Ali Saleem, in the area of sports - sports management and technical services to sports development
15. Mr. Abdul Ghafoor Ali, in the area of sports - professional sportsman in sea sports, and training
16. Mr. Abdulla Niyaz, in the area of sports – contributing to and promotion of exercise and fitness
17. Ms. Fathimath Rishma, in the area of sports - professional sportsman and training
18. Mr. Mohamed Shafy, in the area of visual arts – photography
19. Mr. Mohamed Abdul Ghanee, in the area of performing arts – singing, training, and composition
20. Mr. Ibrahim Rasheed, in the area of performing arts – acting in feature film and drama, training, and script writing
21. First Sergeant Samha Yoosuf, in the area of women – performing non-stereotypical job: Weapon Instructor at MNDF
22. Ms. Mariyam Shifzan, in the area of women – performing non-stereotypical job: Senior Airworthiness Engineer at Maldives Civil Aviation Authority
23. Ms. Rabia Hussain, in the area of women
24. Mr. Mohamed Sharif, in the area of youth – introduction of products and services beneficial to the society

In addition, the National Award of Recognition was also presented to one association. Namely:

25. Naifaru Juvenile, in the area of Social Services

In his speech, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom extended his congratulations and warm wishes to all the recipients of this year’s National Awards.

The National Award is presented to outstanding individuals, civil institutions, private companies, and organisations in recognition of, and honouring, exceptional and continuous services towards nurturing a healthier and more vibrant society and contribution to national development.

The National Awards conferred annually are the National Award of Honour and the National Award of Recognition.
