President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent his condolences to the family of K.D Ahmed Manik upon his passing.
The President touched on the late K.D Ahmed Manik’s innumerable and invaluable services to the State and the people of Maldives; highlighting that he had always fulfilled his duties with dedication.
K.D Ahmed Manik passed away in ADK Hospital last evening after prolonged illness; he was 82 years of age.
The late K.D Ahmed Manik served in Government for 61 years; having begun his service on 6th May 1953 – his first appointment was as a Communication Observer. The late K.D Ahmed Manik served for an extended period, of 19 years, with the Maldives' Defence Force.
Some of his service to the nation include, Counsel at the Ministry of Provincial Affairs, Senior Assistant Collector at the Customs, Counsel at the Sports Division, Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Construction and Public Works, Commissioner of Elections and Minister of State. His final official appointment was as Controller of Immigration and Emigration from which he retired on 5th November 2008.
Additionally, the late K.D Ahmed Manik filled the post of Atoll Chief for the Atolls of Laamu, Dhaalu and Haa Dhaalu. He also served as Member of Parliament representing, separately, the constituencies of Haa Dhaalu Atoll and Dhaalu Atoll - also representing the two atolls as a member of Special Majlis.
The late K.D Ahmed Manik is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters.
