The President states Maldivian Health Sector Receives Considerable Assistance from Bangladesh

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that Maldivian Health Sector receives a great deal of assistance from Bangladesh. The President stated this during a courtesy call made by Bangladesh’s Chief of Army Staff, General Abu Belal Muhammad Saiful Haq at the President’s Office on Monday morning.

During this meeting, the President and Bangladesh’s Chief of Army Staff highlighted the existing bilateral relations between both countries and discussed that areas be further explored in order to enhance the good working relationship between the two countries.

At the meeting, the President highlighted that a huge number of Maldivian students were engaged in higher education at Institutions in Bangladesh, especially in the field of Medicine and Health. Additionally, the President pointed to the fact that many officers of the Maldives’ National Defence Force had trained at the Naval Academy of Bangladesh. Adding that Bangladesh was a fast developing country, the President stated his hopes towards work with Bangladesh on a wide range of issues.

Speaking at the meeting, the Bangladeshi Chief of Army Staff reasoned that the Health Sector in Maldives stands to gain the most in terms of assistance, with Bangladeshi doctors given increasing opportunities to work in the Maldives. He further stated that Bangladesh would continue to provide specialist doctors for Maldivian hospitals as needs arise.

The President was accompanied at the meeting by Chief of Defence Force, Major General Ahmed Shiyam and Under Secretary at the President’s Office Mr. Mohamed Naseer.
